Aid for Chechen Refugees
Since the start of this latest Emergency when Russian forces re-entered Chechnya in September 1999, the tiny Ingush nation of only 360,000 has been completely overwhelmed by the massive exodus of people: over 300,000 refugees now shelter within borders!
Following a needs assessment mission to the region in October 1999, headed by Dr Hany El Banna, (Managing Director of Islamic Relief), Islamic Relief activated a $2 million relief operation in Ingushetia: The Chechen Refugees Relief Project.
