India’s Earthquake tragedy

As India reeled from the Gujrat earthquake that left nearly 30,000 confirmed dead, Islamic Relief allocated US $250,000 for the immediate delivery of aid. An emergency response team was dispatched from the UK as the horrific scale of the tragedy unfolded.

On the 26th of January 2001, a huge earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richer scale devastated the Southern Western region of India (Gujrat). The initial death toll was set at 724 in the city of Ahmedabad – the reality of the loss of life however was a stun to the world.
