Sustainable Sea Fisheries for Simeulue and Singkil

Haloban village on Haloban Island is the seat of the West Pulao Banyak sub-district in Singkil district. Haloban Island is one of the small Islands on the west coast of Aceh that directly faces onto the Indian Ocean. The Island can only be reached by a boat or a fishing vessel. The journey on an open small cargo or fishing boat from from Singkil township to Haloban village takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on the sea and the weather.

Haloban Island has around 2,684 residents, nearly all of whom rely on fishing for their livelihood.
