East Africa Crisis Update
Islamic Relief Somalia is today reviewing its achievements since July 20, when famine was declared in East Africa. At that time, 4 million Somalis were trapped in a humanitarian crisis, and 2 million of them were displaced from their homes. The world’s attention shifted to Somalia, particularly South Central Somalia—this time not because of political infighting but because of a serious humanitarian crisis that arose from a combination of drought, famine, and the local communities’ inadequate capacity to cope with emergencies.
